Rick Henry’s firsthand route follows FR 1002 north from the pull-off to an old ATV track climbing east. After the track crosses the larger drainage, his route leaves it uphill toward the bluff and Big Buck Falls. A 2020 firsthand report corroborates the old track and steep final bushwhack. Current road and ford access remain unconfirmed.

Henry records the Big Buck/Deer Trail pull-off at 35.75620,-93.27557 on FR 1002/NC 7470 beside Big Piney Creek. His approach requires rough roads and creek fords; the historical driving directions are not evidence that crossings are passable now.
