Winter Falls drops 134 feet on Winter Creek in Silver Falls State Park. From the Winter Falls Trailhead pullout on Highway 214, take the Winter Falls Trail down into the canyon. Views of the falls open near the bottom of the first descent, and trees block part of the view lower down. The same trail continues down to the Canyon Trail on the North Fork Silver Creek, which is part of the Trail of Ten Falls. Return the same way.

The Northwest Waterfall Survey says the Winter Creek trail descends gradually to the bottom of Winter Falls in about 1/5 of a mile from the Winter Falls Trailhead. Return the same way, uphill.

Where to start

Winter Falls Trailhead, a pullout on the right side of Highway 214 when driving south from Silverton, between the North Falls parking area and the South Falls area of the park.

Timing & water

Silver Falls State Park is open for day use year-round. Winter Creek flows best in winter and spring and shrinks to a trickle in summer and early fall; in very dry summers it can dry up.

Before you go

Oregon State Parks: a day-use parking permit is required; a 1-day permit can be bought on site. Oregon Hikers lists the fee as $10 or a State Park Pass. No pets on the Canyon, Winter Falls and Maple Ridge trails.
