From the junction of US 64 and NC 106 in Highlands, drive south on NC 106 for 9.3 miles and pull off on the right at a yellow school bus sign. There is room for one or two cars. Follow the obvious path down and under the power lines to a split after a couple hundred feet; right goes to Upper Middle Creek Falls. Go left and up a ridge, where many side paths go nowhere. In about 0.2 miles a trail comes in from the left; it goes to private property, so turn right. In about 0.3 miles a side path on the right goes to the top of the falls. Go back about 50 feet and take the other path right to a viewpoint of the main upper drop, about 75 feet. You can scramble down the rocks to creek level. There is no reasonable way farther down.
