Upper Falls is the upper waterfall of the McCloud River group. Driving access is currently closed by a dated Forest Service order.
Plan your visit
The Mount Shasta Trail Association documents Upper Falls on the McCloud River Trail and a separate overlook parking area. The current motor-vehicle closure prevents driving to that lot. A complete winter walking approach is not verified here.
No verified distance for the waterfall approach.
Unknown.
Where to start
Do not plan to use the Upper Falls lot during the closure. The trail association identifies winter trailhead parking at the FR 40N44 gate just south of Highway 89, but this guide does not verify the complete walk from there.
Timing & water
USFS Order 14-26-12 closes the named McCloud Falls roads to motor vehicles October 5, 2026 through May 1, 2027. Upper Falls Road 40N44B is explicitly listed. This is a motor-vehicle restriction, not a blanket walking closure.
