Taitnapum Falls is the uppermost and smallest of the four major falls on this stretch of the North Fork Lewis River, in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. The river drops about 16 to 20 feet over a ragged, undercut ledge across about 60 feet of river. From the Quartz Creek Trailhead on Forest Road 90, about 2 3/4 miles east of the Lower Falls Recreation Area just before the road crosses Quartz Creek, walk downstream on the Lewis River Trail a little over a third of a mile to the falls. Steep canyon walls and trees prevent a full view. Return the same way, or continue downstream to Upper Lewis River Falls.

WTA says Taitnapum Falls is about one third of a mile from the Quartz Creek Trailhead. The Northwest Waterfall Survey says just over 1/3 mile downstream from the upper trailhead. WTA's 8.8-mile round trip is the longer hike from the Lower Falls Recreation Area.
