Cross the river on the footbridge by the old hydropower ruins and follow the river upstream past the Lower Catawba Falls overlook to the base of Catawba Falls. Climb the stair system (about 500 to 580 steps) to the top, then continue about 0.1 miles toward the upper falls. Return the same way, or cross the river below the upper falls and take Catawba Falls Ridge Trail back to the parking area.
