Stave Mill Falls

From parking beyond Moccasin Gap campground, walk back to the gravel road and take the left ATV trail. Scott Hallmark’s 2025 account follows four forks: left, right, left, left, using Stave Mill Falls/SM Falls signs. The route reaches the top of the falls; return along the same trail.

Hallmark explicitly reports approximately 3.5 miles round-trip to Stave Mill Falls. The separately described Little Oak Falls extension is not included as a required part of this route.

Wide shared ATV trail with elevation changes, mostly uphill on return. Expect motorized traffic. Viewing the base requires an additional bluff descent not detailed here.

Where to start

Enter Moccasin Gap from Highway 7, about 15.5 miles north of Dover. Continue past the campground roughly a quarter-mile to parking on the left, identified by Hallmark at 35.57117, -93.06839.

Timing & water

USFS lists the day-use area all year. Hallmark recommends winter through late spring for flow; current water and trail conditions are unverified.

The inspected 2026 USFS schedule lists Moccasin Gap day-use parking at $3 per vehicle, including a trailer. Follow current collection-station instructions; camping and OHV use have separate listed charges.
