Northern New York Waterfalls: Artists Falls

Artists Falls is a 20-foot stepped waterfall on Gill Brook inside the Adirondack Mountain Reserve (AMR), private land where hikers have access through a conservation easement. From the AMR parking lot on NY 73, across from the Giant Mountain Wilderness signs at St. Huberts, walk about half a mile up the road toward the club grounds. By the tennis court near the St. Hubert's Inn clubhouse, turn left onto the Lake Road and sign in at the gate house. Follow the Lake Road about 1.75 miles to the Gill Brook Trail, then hike about 0.4 miles up the trail to the falls. Return the same way.

Where to start

AMR hiker parking lot on NY 73 at St. Huberts, between Keene Valley and the northern junction of NY 73 and US 9, across from the Roaring Brook Falls trailhead. Unpaved.

Timing & water

Reservations apply May 1 to October 31. The AMR land is open to hikers year-round under the easement.

Before you go

From May 1 to October 31, DEC requires a reservation from the AMR for parking and daily access; walk-ins are not permitted. Reservations open two weeks ahead on the AMR website. No dogs, drones, camping or off-trail travel on AMR land.
