Artist Point Falls

The January 2014 Arkansas PBS visit follows the trail at the right of the Artist Point gift shop, descending an old roadbed and switchbacks to the falls. Return uphill.

PBS reports 0.6 mile to the falls. Dale Cox’s photographed guide explicitly gives 1.2 miles round trip. These are historical accounts, not a current manager measurement.

Steep switchbacks; strenuous climb back and slippery rocks near the water.

Where to start

The documented start is Artist Point gift shop on US 71, about 8 miles north of Mountainburg. An authorized waterfall parking arrangement was not verified.

Timing & water

For the Love of Wanderlust reports temporary closure, but does not establish a current closure date. Its suggested bear-related cause is unconfirmed. Reopening was not verified on October 27, 2026.
