Lower Little Mashel Falls is the lowest of three waterfalls in the gorge of the Little Mashel River near Eatonville, a 39-foot drop over a chunky ledge. From the Bud Blancher Trailhead walk the wide crushed-rock path downhill, cross a wooden bridge over the Mashel River and pass Smallwood Park. At the confusing intersection at 0.9 mile stay left on the road and trail with a yellow bollard, and note the spot for the return. Cross the Little Mashel River on a wooden bridge at 1.4 miles; 350 feet farther a sign points left to the Little Mashel Falls trail. After 100 yards follow the small yellow Falls Trail sign to the right and climb. At 1.8 miles take the side trail on the left with a brown sign reading Lower Falls, down to the water's edge with the help of crushed rock and a crib ladder. Return the same way. The middle and upper falls are farther up the Falls Trail. The land around the falls has mixed ownership by the University of Washington, the town of Eatonville and the City of Tacoma; the railroad above the upper falls is strictly off limits. The survey says access from Alder Cutoff Road is no longer permitted by the town.
