Big Heart Lake trail reaches the outlet area; waterfall-view approach unconfirmed

WTA gives 7.3 miles to Big Heart Lake. That lake distance must not be presented as a measured approach to a view of the full falls.

A long steep mountain hike to the lake, with substantial elevation gain and loss. The survey does not provide a developed or sanctioned route to the waterfall base.

Where to start

Use West Fork Foss Lakes trailhead at the end of Road 6835. WTA directs drivers from US 2 onto Foss River Road 68, then left onto 6835; some maps incorrectly keep the route on Road 68. The final approach is unpaved with potholes.

Timing & water

The waterfall survey reports reduced flow after surrounding snow melts, generally by late summer.

Before you go

Northwest Forest Pass or accepted equivalent required at the lake trailhead. Confirm current wilderness camping rules if planning an overnight trip.
