Upper Silver Run Falls is a steep cascading falls about 20 feet high on Silver Run Creek in Nantahala National Forest, upstream of the popular Silver Run Falls. Follow the short trail from the NC 107 pullout toward Silver Run Falls; the county map describes crossing a stream on a bridge before the falls. Before the trail drops to the pool at the base of Silver Run Falls, it passes a rock face covered with roots. Climb this near-vertical rock face, using the roots like ladder rungs. From the top, work upstream along several braided paths under and over rhododendron for about 0.1 miles to the falls. Return the same way, taking care on the descent of the rock face.
