Take a Hike: North Carolina waterfalls M to R (Nasty Falls)

From NC 107 about 5.5 miles south of Cashiers, turn left on Heady Mountain Road and drive 1 mile to its end at a bridge over the Whitewater River. Strike out through the woods and follow the river downstream; there is no trail, only a maze of old logging roads and paths. After about half a mile get into the river and creek walk downstream to the small falls. The author found the side view from the top nicer than the base.

Where to start

Park on the right immediately before the bridge at the end of Heady Mountain Road (Take a Hike trailhead 35.05325, -83.05386). This is not a signed trailhead and the land status at the parking spot was not confirmed.
