Ground & access
Very difficult. Off trail, very steep, with cliffs, a ford, creek crossings and fallen trees. For experienced off-trail hikers only.

Paw Paw Falls is the lowest of four waterfalls on Bearwallow Creek in Gorges State Park that were once all called Paw Paw Falls. From top to bottom they are Indian Camp, Split Rock, Chute and Paw Paw Falls. There is no trail. Waterfall Hero describes this route, and the route description dates from 2016. From the Grassy Ridge trailhead, take Rainbow Falls Trail and then the blue-blazed Raymond Fisher Trail down to the pond and campground. Follow a service road past the campsite to a junction and turn sharply right onto another old road. Keep left at the next two intersections and ford Bearwallow Creek. From there, bushwhack downstream close to the creek. Indian Camp Falls is about a quarter mile below the ford, with Split Rock Falls just below it. Cliffs then force a climb high above the creek before you come back down at Chute Falls. The writers crossed the creek at Chute Falls and bushwhacked down to Paw Paw Falls. Rich Stevenson also describes the trip as an all-bushwhack route that is very steep in places.
