Holbert Cove Road gate to Upper Fungi Falls

Rich Stevenson walked the gated road about three quarters of a mile to the turnaround, then about 0.1 mile of trail and a short off trail descent. The return figure doubles those segments. The lower falls needs a further steep scramble that he does not recommend.

Where to start

At the gated dirt road on the right of Holbert Cove Road, 4.8 miles from I-26 exit 59 at Saluda, without blocking the gate. The land beside the road before the game land is private and a no trespassing sign stands by the gate; Stevenson walked the road assuming that was allowed but states that this was only an assumption.

Timing & water

The account is from May 2016. The Green River area was badly damaged by Tropical Storm Helene in 2024 and current road and gate status is not reported.
