NC Waterfalls: East Fork Falls, Headwaters State Forest

East Fork Falls is a 12-foot cascade with a deep swimming hole on the East Fork French Broad River in Headwaters State Forest south of Rosman. From the wide pullout on East Fork Road an obvious path leads first to a peek at the top of the falls and then down over roots and rocks to a small standing area at the base. A full open view means getting out in the river, and the cascades below the pool need a wade across.

Where to start

NC Waterfalls: from US 64 in Rosman take US 178 south 1.6 miles, left on East Fork Road (SR 1107) 3.7 miles, right to stay on East Fork Road 2.6 miles, wide pullout on the right. From US 276 at Connestee Falls, East Fork Road 5.7 miles to the pullout on the left. Room for only 2 to 3 vehicles; park fully off the pavement. Trailhead GPS 35.11372, -82.74776.

Timing & water

Open year round. Wading for the view depends on water level.

Before you go

Headwaters State Forest (N.C. Forest Service). No fee. Foot travel only; dogs on leash per visitor accounts. The forest is also game land open to hunting.
