A downhill woodland walk with a substantial climb back to the entrance.

Plan your visit

Walk past the entrance gate down the main dirt road. At about 0.2 mile take the left Elise Falls branch. At Smith Creek follow the yellow-marked route downstream, then turn up the small tributary to the falls; retrace your route.

Arklahoma Hiker explicitly gives 0.8 mile each way from the gate, 1.6 miles return; the rounded headline says 2 miles. TNC’s general trail-length range is not a waterfall-specific measurement.

Steep sections, creekbed travel and roughly 400 feet of return climbing reported by the firsthand guide.

Where to start

Park by the entrance gate off Highway 21, three miles south of Boxley Baptist Church. The firsthand route starts beyond this gate; TNC directs visitors to the entrance kiosk.

Timing & water

TNC lists the preserve open to the public. The firsthand account describes better waterfall flow in wet conditions; Sherfield Cave is closed to visitors.
