- Gravel forest road, then a trail with three creek crossings and a very steep path to the base. Rocks are slippery.
Walk Thunderhole Road to the permanent gate and on to a concrete ford over China Creek. Just after the ford, take the China Creek Trail on the left downstream. In about half a mile cross China Creek just above its confluence with Thunderhole Creek, then make two more crossings of Thunderhole Creek. After the third crossing the trail climbs a ridge above the creek; look for a steep path down to the exposed rocks at the small falls and its swimming hole.
