Ground & access
Gravel road shoulder. The bank to the creek is very steep with barbed wire; viewing from the road is the practical option.

This roughly 50-foot section of cascades on Chastine Creek sits beside narrow gravel Chastine Creek Road (SR 1745) off Caney Fork Road, the last left before the Rough Butt Falls parking. The legacy NC Waterfalls account (2006) says the first part of the road is private property, with Nantahala National Forest boundary signs near the waterfall less than half a mile up. The author viewed the cascades from the road and found the bank down to the creek very steep, with barbed wire to cross, and noted trash dumped at the site. More cascades above were not safely reachable.

Where to start

Legacy NC Waterfalls: from Cashiers take NC 107 north 17.6 miles, right on Caney Fork Road; Chastine Creek Road is a left Y turn before the Rough Butt Falls parking at 9.2 miles. The author parked in a little pull-off on the left a bit beyond the falls. Road width is tight and the lower road passes private land; parking permission is not confirmed.

Timing & water

The account was from a wet August day in 2006; flow depends on recent rain. Current road condition and boundary postings are unverified.
