Ground & access
Short walk along the road edge and a creekside path to a footbridge. Very steep, dangerous gorge below the falls.

Old Mill Falls is a two-step drop of 15 to 16 feet on Plattekill Creek, the first of the many falls in Platte Clove. It is just below the Overlook Bridge, a King Post style footbridge that marks the start of the old Overlook Mountain carriage road, beside Platte Clove Road. The land along the road here is the Catskill Center Platte Clove Preserve, not state land. Catskill Mountaineer says the falls can easily be seen from the bridge. Stay away from the top of Plattekill Falls just downstream: the owner does not want people there, and people have died in this clove.

Platte Clove Road near the top of Platte Clove, Overlook Bridge (King Post footbridge) over Plattekill Creek, view of Old Mill Falls just below the bridge

Catskill Mountaineer places Old Mill Falls just below the footbridge beside Platte Clove Road, and Plattekill Falls about 200 feet south of that bridge. It gives no walking distance from the Steenburgh Road parking area.

Short walk along the road edge and a creekside path to a footbridge. Very steep, dangerous gorge below the falls.

Where to start

DEC Steenburgh Road parking area (Kaaterskill High Peak and Huckleberry Point trailhead) off Platte Clove Road, a narrow dirt road on the left just before the Hell Hole bridge when coming from Tannersville. Do not park on the side of Platte Clove Road. Catskill Mountaineer also lists the lot at the end of Prediger Road if the DEC lot is full. Its separate Plattekill Falls page describes roadside parking near the falls, which conflicts with this advice.

Timing & water

The steep downhill section of Platte Clove Road is closed in winter (November to April), so reach the area from Tannersville. Flow is best after rain.

Before you go

No fee is stated. Catskill Center preserve rules: no mountain biking, camping or swimming.
