Ground & access
No established trails; cross-country walking over grassland and basalt with few landmarks. Carry a map and compass or GPS. Cattle graze here; CDFW says stay at least 300 feet from them. Cliff edges are unfenced in places. The usual viewpoint is very close to the cliff edge. Johnson warn against the narrow ledges to the lower viewpoint.

Ranch Falls is also called Long Falls. Z and B Johnson walked west from the parking lot to Hollow Falls, through Beatson Hollow to Beatson Falls, south to the mountain edge at Crevice Falls, then southwest along the rim to a viewpoint northwest of the falls, below a tree near the edge. That viewpoint does not show the whole 157-foot fall.

Plan your visit

North Table Mountain Ecological Reserve parking lot, cross-country west past Hollow and Beatson Falls to Crevice Falls, then southwest along the rim to the Long (Ranch) Falls viewpoint

Z and B Johnson give about 3.25 miles from the trailhead to Crevice Falls and about 0.25 miles more along the rim to the viewpoint. The 3.5-mile one-way figure is the sum. Their South Loop that passes this viewpoint is 7.25 miles in total.

Where to start

Use the reserve parking lot on the west side of Cherokee Road, about 6.3 miles north of Table Mountain Boulevard (CDFW directions). CDFW says the lot is small, fills on busy days, and parking along Cherokee Road is not permitted.

Timing & water

Flows only after substantial rain, usually winter to early spring; Johnson list March to mid-April for this loop.

Before you go

CDFW requires a Lands Pass for anyone 16 or older, unless the person holds a valid California hunting or fishing license. Open daily, sunrise to sunset. Dogs on a leash of 10 feet or less.
