Plan your visit

A 2015 firsthand account parked at a roadside spot just north of Mulberry Mountain Lodge, then bushwhacked down into the Welcave Hollow drainage and followed it down. Spirit Mountain Falls was the first waterfall reached, in that same drainage, a few hundred feet above where it meets Mountain Fork Creek. There is no trail.

The author quotes a guidebook figure of a 1-mile bushwhack with over 700 feet of elevation drop. That figure covers three falls in the area, so treat it as a rough distance to this fall.

The author called it one of the steepest and toughest bushwhacks he had done: thick brush, big rocks, over 700 feet of descent, and a hard climb back.
