Start at Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center and follow the East Glacier Trail to the AJ Falls spur. Conservation Volunteers International documented walking from this parking area with a USFS crew and improving the named spur in June 2024. Follow the established spur to the waterfall and return to the loop.

East Glacier Trail and AJ Falls spur
3.5 miles is the East Glacier loop, not a measured total including the AJ spur. The report’s 200 feet is work length, not full spur distance.
Challenging forest loop with gravel, rock and stairs; the spur maintenance addressed wet, muddy sections.
Where to start
Use Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center parking at the end of Glacier Spur Road, reached via Egan Drive and Mendenhall Loop Road. Travel Juneau confirms parking on site, and the maintenance report explicitly uses that lot for the AJ Falls approach.
Timing & water
Check USFS trail and glacial-flood alerts. The tourism page reports visitor-center and adjacent-trail reopening; seasonal weather still affects the loop.
