Ground & access
Boardwalk and stone steps near the parking area, then a dirt and gravel rim trail above a 100-foot-deep gorge. Unmarked side paths into the gorge are steep, eroded and dangerous.

Lower Carpenter Falls, also called Angel Falls, is a 62-foot drop on Bear Swamp Creek below Carpenter Falls, in DEC's Carpenter Falls Unique Area near Skaneateles Lake. From the parking area, the boardwalk leads to the Carpenter Falls viewing platform. To go downstream, follow the rim trail (Old Jug Path) along the south side of the gorge. DEC says the lower falls are at the northeast end of this trail. World of Waterfalls reports warning signs at the end of the rim trail and found the gorge falls easier to hear than to see from the trail. DEC requires visitors to stay on designated trails, so do not take the steep unmarked paths down into the gorge.
