The Kauai visitor guide describes viewing Wailua Falls from the established roadside lookout reached by Maalo Road (Highway 583). Remain at the overlook. The current DLNR storm notice only expressly describes reopening river and landing/trailhead access, so it does not clearly establish this roadside overlook’s current status. Confirm with State Parks before traveling.

Wailua Falls roadside overlook from Maalo Road

Only the stated source distance is supported; mapped proximity is not a walking distance.

Roadside overlook above the falls; no verified accessible-surface specification.

Where to start

Use only the designated parking area for the lookout off Maalo Road. Do not use an informal descent to the waterfall base as the approach.

Timing & water

Storm-recovery access is partly restricted. The current notice does not explicitly confirm roadside-overlook reopening.

Before you go

DLNR lists nonresident entry $5 per person, children 3 and under free, plus $10 per noncommercial vehicle; residents free with Hawaii ID. Credit card only. Its February 2026 notice expressly includes Wailua Falls.
