At the first junction, turn right to walk the loop counter-clockwise; the trail descends a lush ravine to the Kahuna Falls viewpoint and then continues to Akaka Falls. Trees partly hide Kahuna Falls. DLNR reported on October 23, 2026 that part of the trail is closed due to fallen trees; it is not stated whether the Kahuna Falls viewpoint is affected.
