Park rates this shorter Crow Pass outing easy, but the full route has difficult stream crossings. Exact surface and elevation gain for the falls view are not stated.

Long valley walk to a view of Heritage Falls across Eagle River.

Plan your visit

Start at Eagle River Nature Center and follow the Historic Iditarod/Crow Pass Trail toward the view of Heritage Falls across Eagle River. Return on the same trail; this is a distant view, not a route to the waterfall base.

Alaska State Parks lists Heritage Falls as 4.5 miles one way from the nature center; 9 miles is the calculated out-and-back distance. The 2026 Crow Pass race report describes rerouting near The Perch/Echo Bend; whether this changes the falls-view mileage is unverified.

Where to start

Eagle River Nature Center parking, 32750 Eagle River Road. From Eagle River Loop Road, turn onto Eagle River Road and continue 10 miles to the parking lot and log cabin at its end.

Timing & water

Trails accessible 24/7. On October 27, 2026 the center lists Albert Loop closed from August 10, with all other trails open; this does not establish snow or ford conditions along the entire Crow Pass route.

Before you go

Nature center user fee: $5 per vehicle for 24 hours; pay at the front door by credit card or exact cash.
